Dear Membership,
As you know, we are being sued by the RPOF/RCSSC. Our attorney is doing a great job in our defense and plans to win. He has deposed two people from the plaintiffs' side and has three or four more to do. Also, over the last two weeks he has counseled and defended us in a two and half hour mediation. We did not come to a compromise as he followed and defended our wishes..
We will be going to trial in October, and, as we all know, this requires funding which you have all provided most generously. Any suggestions that you have for fundraising for our cause are most welcome and very appreciated. I think we all know that we want to win this suit.
Once again I appeal to your generous hearts and valuable ideas to fund this case. Winning will include the plaintiffs having to reimburse us for our legal expenses. Which means I will repay each of you who has so willingly made this happen.
May God bless you and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our meeting Wednesday.
Gratefully humble,
Terry Angley, President
AFSWFLC
For 18 months, since April 2024, the America First SWFL Caucus and our leaders have fought a baseless lawsuit by the (new) Republican Club of South Sarasota County (RCSSC) and the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF). The plaintiffs falsely accuse us of taking $10k in funds, furniture, and even a coffee pot after RCSSC’s lawful dissolution in January 2024. Our evidence, including a letter from RCSSC’s former president Michael Stephenson and RPOF’s acknowledgment of our returned charter, proves our board voted to dissolve RCSSC and transfer assets to our caucus with member approval.
Why did we dissolve RCSSC? In November 2023, RPOF introduced new rules that threatened to control our treasury, officers, membership list, who could speak at our meetings, and what candidates we have to endorse! We voted to resign our charter, to become autonomous and self-governing. With a critical hearing on October 1, 2025, and trial on October 20, 2025, we urgently need your donations to stand against the RPOF’s attorneys - act now! This is a fight for self-governance against political law fare. The RPOF establishment can’t allow grassroots, America First leaders to gain too much power, so they filed a lawsuit.” RPOF’s new rules, which forced us to dissolve RCSSC to protect our independence, would have stripped our control over our own organization. Our records show the funds belonged to our members, who authorized their transfer, yet RCSSC, now a “New Group” with a handful of members and a questionable new charter, and RPOF claim ownership. We’ve presented strong arguments that RCSSC and RPOF lack standing, but we face urgent deadlines: document production by September 15, 2025, and testimony from key figures to expose RPOF’s motives, including who funds their lawsuit. The October 1, 2025, hearing could dismiss these claims, but we must act fast. Your donations will fund these efforts against RPOF’s vast resources. Our attorney's small legal team at Mahshie & DeCosta faces intense pressure against RPOF’s well-funded machine, with depositions scheduled for September 8 and 17, 2025, and document deadlines this week. Our witnesses are ready to prove our case, but costs are soaring.
We need your support to continue. Your contributions will fund critical legal work—depositions, documents, and trial preparation—in these final weeks. With time running out, donate today to keep us in the fight!
As the canary in the coal mine, our fight protects every grassroots group from top-down control. We’re defending our right to uphold America First principles against a political giant. RPOF’s rules threatened our autonomy, but we chose freedom by dissolving RCSSC and forming our caucus. Now, we must defend that choice in court. Join us at our September 10, 2025, meeting to stand united, and contribute through our secure donation button below. Your generosity will cover urgent legal costs ensuring we can present our evidence and set a precedent for others. Time is of the essence—donate now to help us prevail!
